Another 'Volunteer Fair' Success!

Thursday, May 22nd 2008

For the second year in a row, Young Professionals created a venue at no cost for area service organizations to showcase their volunteer opportunities. The 2nd Annual Volunteer Fair drew about 50 YoungPros to the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce to learn about the needs within our community. Salem Chamber President Theresa Taaffe with Portland General Electric and Marion County District Attorney Walt Beglau were in attendance. Both Taaffe and Beglau thanked area organizations and YoungPros for connecting with each other.

17 local organizations took advantage of the opportunity to set up booths at no cost at the Salem Chamber. Those in attendance included Family Building Blocks, Salem Leadership Foundation, Boys and Girls Club of Salem, Ready to Learn Ready to Work Program, and many others.

This year, the Leadership Team created sign-up sheets for YoungPros in attendance that found an opportunity they wanted to learn more about. Each YoungPro will be followed up with and connected with staff people at the organizations they expressed interest in.

The Volunteer Fair marked the only afternoon event of the season. During the summer months, YoungPros will take advantage of great Oregon weather and host after hours starting with Casino Night on the Willamette Queen on Thursday, June 19th beginning at 5:30pm.

Also, if you're a YoungPro in a volunteer leadership role already in the Salem area, let us know! Email connect@salemyoungpros.com and tell us more about your position and we'll post it online.
